Łukašenka appoints new Air Force deputy commander

May 16, Pozirk. Alaksandar Łukašenka appointed Colonel Michaił Matrosaŭ as deputy commander of the Belarusian Air/Air Defense Forces, his press office reported yesterday.

The announcement came five days following the dismissal of Viktar Hulevič as General Staff chief and first deputy defense minister.

Matrosaŭ, who had served as the first deputy head of the Air/Air Defense Forces command’s armament department since 2023, filled the position left vacant by Dźmitryj Michałap, transferred to a top management position at Military Academy.

Matrosaŭ holds a degree from a military engineering school in Minsk and has experience of service with anti-aircraft units. He was awarded nine medals and received a commendation from Łukašenka.
