Łukašenka wants to “revive” Nagorno-Karabakh

May 16, Pozirk. During today’s talks in Baku, Alaksandar Łukašenka offered Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev cooperation in the post-war restoration of territories.
“A difficult time has come, when you should revive these lands and bring people back . . . You won, you have protected your victory, and now you should revive them,” Łukašenka said, as quoted by his press office.
“You have enough helpers around, but if we could participate in this as friends . . .” he added. “Equipment, farm towns, jobs and certain technologies – your specialists and ministers know these technologies. If they fit, if our equipment can be and operate here.”
Minsk has maintained close ties with Azerbaijan, a de facto adversary of Armenia, Belarus’ ally in the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
Last fall, Azerbaijan took “local anti-terrorist measures” to gain full control of Nagorno-Karabakh. The unrecognized Republic of Artsakh dissolved itself on January 1, 2024.
