January 23, Pozirk. Belarusian officers have started a command post exercise that will last until January 26, the defense ministry’s press office reports.

Deputy Defense Minister Viktar Hulevič, chief of the General Staff, is in charge, it added.

The drill focuses on operations planning “based on a forecast of developments on the European continent, as well as the experience of the military force use under modern conditions,” the ministry said.

The defense ministry had conducted similar drills in December 2021, less than two months before Russia invaded Ukraine from Belarus.

The exercise comes shortly after NATO launched Steadfast Defender maneuvers involving about 90,000 personnel and scheduled to last until May.

The synopsis is reportedly based on a potential Russian attack on NATO countries. NATO had not held large-scale training like that since 1988.
