Łukašenka seeks state media support for his presidential campaign

August 29, Pozirk. With one year to go before Belarus’ presidential election, Alaksandar Łukašenka has advised his propaganda officials to promote his candidacy without exaggeration while focusing on achievements.
“We don’t need to tweak anyone by the ears here again,” his press office quoted him as saying. “We have something to show to people. Yes, we have a lot of shortcomings. Well, what can we do. . . . Everyone has them but we’ve done a lot, and we need to show it to people. Let the people decide what to do and who to elect.”
“We should also not campaign vigorously in favor of the current president, if he is a candidate. Show it quietly as it is,” he added.
Among those taking part in the conference with Łukašenka were Uładzimir Piarcoŭ, former information minister and his administration’s deputy head; Information Minister Marat Markaŭ; Łukašenka’s spokeswoman Natalla Ejsmant; and her husband Ivan Ejsmant, in charge of the Belarusian Television and Radio Company.
The seventh presidential election in Belarus is to be held no later than July 20, 2025.
Earlier this month, the BelPol association of former law enforcers warned that it might be brought forward to February 23.
Belarusian pro-democracy forces pledged to seek the non-recognition of election results, stressing that the vote is likely to be rigged.
