Armenia releases Belarusian dissident before extradition hearing
September 3, Pozirk. Armenian police have released the Belarusian woman wanted by Minsk on politically-motivated charges, Aleś Michalevič, a Belarusian lawyer based in the Czech Republic, said yesterday on his Facebook account.
Dzijana Maisiejenka was arrested on September 2 at the request of the Belarusian authorities on entering Armenia from Georgia.
She is not allowed to leave Armenia until her extradition case is examined in court.
Yerevan has reassured the Office of Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja that it will not extradite Belarusian dissidents to Belarus, Franak Viačorka, an aide to the leader of Belarusian pro-democracy forces, has told journalists.
“We continue to work with the Armenian foreign ministry on the cases of Dyjana Maisiejenka and other Belarusians wanted by the [Alaksandar] Łukašenka regime for political reasons,” he said.
