International Day of Democracy: Cichanoŭskaja calls on the world to support Belarusians

September 15, Pozirk. On the International Day of Democracy, Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja called on the international community to support the Belarusians in their fight for freedom.
“Democracy is not only a right but a shared duty for all. We are determined to create a new Belarus, founded on justice, human dignity and the rule of law,” she said on Twitter (X).
The International Day of Democracy is celebrated on September 15 since 2008 by decision of the UN General Assembly.
In a message for Sunday’s celebration, Secretary-General António Guterres reiterated the importance of upholding free speech, civil liberties and the rule of law, as well as ensuring accountable institutions and protecting human rights, UN News reported.
This year’s theme for the International Day of Democracy is AI as a tool for good governance.
