Election commission registers Łukašenka’s signature-collection group, rejects bids from Hubarevič, Drazdoŭ

October 29, Pozirk. The central election commission has registered the initiative group that will collect ballot-access signatures for Alaksandar Łukašenka’s presidential candidacy.

The commission rejected the applications from Alaksandr Drazdoŭ and Juraś Hubarevič, an exiled opposition politician, citing irregularities.

Hubarevič submitted the documents by email rather than person or someone acting on a power of attorney, an election official said.

“The legislation does not allow for the right to submit such documents by email,” the official added.

Drazdoŭ’s applications was rejected because he failed to submit all required documents, the official said.

Candidates must garner at least 100,000 voter signatures to qualify for the race.
