Ukraine and Russia exchange PoW lists in Belarus
November 8, Pozirk. Human rights commissioners from Ukraine and Russia, Dmytro Lubinets and Tatyana Moskalkova, have met in Belarus to exchange lists of prisoners of war and the bodies of soldiers killed in action.
“In carrying out the humanitarian mission, Ukraine has again helped reunite families. As a result of the negotiations, a 91-year-old woman met her son. We demonstrate that family reunification is paramount and hope that this dialogue continues,” Lubinets said on his Telegram channel.
The commissioners also exchanged letters from relatives to their loved ones in captivity.
The Ukrainian ombudsman urged Moscow to grant the International Red Cross access to Ukrainian prisoners of war held in Russia.
“I am communicating with the Russian human rights commissioner to resolve humanitarian issues, return Ukrainians home and obtain information about our citizens in the Russian Federation,” he said.
Russian prisoners of war have been repatriated through Belarus more than once.
On October 18, the Russian defense ministry reported that 95 Russian servicemen, released from Ukrainian captivity in a prisoner exchange, were in Belarus. They have since returned to Russia.
