Belarus’ deficit in goods trade widens to $3.6 billion in January-October

December 5, Pozirk. Belarus’ imports of goods outpaced exports with deficit widening to $3.6 billion in October, the National Statistics Committee (Biełstat) said.
Exports rose by 3.6 percent to $34 billion and imports, by 7.1 percent to $37.6 billion. In September, the deficit surged by almost $1 billion to $3.4 billion after $2.4 billion recorded in January-August.
Belarus’ foreign trade in goods increased by 5.4 percent in the first ten months to $71.6 billion. Biełstat has not disclosed the breakdown by country or goods category.
In 2023, the deficit totaled $3.88 billion and was offset by services trade.
Belarus needs to ensure a balanced foreign trade along with growing and diversified exports, Belarusian Prime Minister Raman Hałoŭčanka said in late June. He vowed to eliminate the deficit in the last quarter of 2024.
