Belarusian-Russian treaty on mutual visa recognition enters into force

January 11, Pozirk. An agreement between Belarus and Russia on mutual recognition of visas, signed in June 2020, has taken effect, the Belarusian foreign ministry reports.
The treaty allows foreign nationals and stateless persons with Belarusian or Russian visas to cross the borders of Belarus and Russia for the entire validity of their visas.
Travelers will also be able to use six border crossings at the shared border between both states, which had previously been open only to Belarusians and Russians. Crossing the Belarusian-Russian border outside these checkpoints is prohibited and will be regarded as a violation of the state border, the ministry noted.
Visa-free entry is possible only if both Belarus and Russia offer visa waivers, otherwise, corresponding entry visas are required.
The treaty does not apply to persons whose entry into any of the two countries is restricted.
