PACE unanimously approves resolution denouncing election in Belarus

January 30, Pozirk. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has voted unanimously to denounce Belarus’ January 21-26 presidential election as blatant contempt for basic democratic standards.

“Since the fraudulent elections of 2020, the Lukashenka regime has systematically implemented measures that in their design and implementation have entirely eroded all vestiges of the key pillars of democratic society in the country,” says the resolution.

Ryszard Petru, the PACE general rapporteur for a democratic Belarus, presented the draft. Anžalika Mielnikava, a member of the Belarusian opposition’s Coordinating Council, presented the council’s position during the debate.
