Poland uses AI to protect border with Belarus

March 30, Pozirk. Polish officers have completed an upgrade of the border with Belarus, the Ministry of the Interior and Administration reported.
It said the fence was equipped with “cameras to monitor the outside of the barrier, LED lamps to illuminate the technical road and additional video surveillance points for the protection of culverts.”
It also announced “implementing an artificial intelligence mechanism” to “categorize alarm signals from fiber optic detection cables.”
These innovations have been implemented at the Podlaskie Voivodeship border section, it noted.
Earlier this week, the Polish government restricted the right of migrants to apply for asylum at the border with Belarus. Polish President Andrzej Duda signed a law that allows authorities not to accept requests for international protection at certain parts of the border. The parliament had approved the document in late February.
On March 22, Donald Tusk said Poland had achieved “98-percent efficiency” in apprehending irregular migrants from Belarusian territory. According to the prime minister, there are 11,000 military, border guards and police officers on the border with Belarus.
