Police seek to arrest as many 2020 protesters as possible before end of prescription period

May 2, Pozirk. The Viasna Human Rights Center reports mass arrests of people who participated in 2020 postelection protests, noting that authorities try to punish as many as possible before the five-year statute of limitations expires.
Most of the arrests are made on violent disorder charges that officials routinely use to persecute peaceful protesters.
Police also arrest people on extremism-related charges for corresponding with Biełaruski Hajun, a security monitoring group declared extremist.
Biełaruski Hajun had monitored Russian and other military activity in Belarus after the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, stopped operations in early February following a data breach.
