Łatuška’s associate Bruchan elected Coordination Council’s speaker

May 15, Pozirk. A total of 50 out of 79 Coordination Council’s (CC) members voted to elect Arciom Bruchan, put forward by Pavieł Łatuška’s faction, as new speaker, its press office reported.
The election took place weeks after the disappearance of the previous incumbent Anžalika Meilnikava, another Łatuška’s associate whose whereabouts remain unknown.
Bruchan’s opponent, Alaksandar Knyrovič of the Belarusians faction, received 11 votes. Eight CC members abstained from voting.
Bruchan, a former employee of the Brest Regional Executive Committee, has resigned from the opposition transition cabinet as deputy representative on power transition, the cabinet reported today.
The new speaker pledged to register the CC as a legal entity as soon as possible, prioritize work inside Belarus and organize public hearings on the transition cabinet’s activities at the annual New Belarus conference.
