Lithuanians warned against traveling to Belarus over risk of arrest for digital content

August 1, Pozirk. Lithuania’s State Security Department has warned Lithuanians against traveling to Belarus over risks of arrest for content stored on their digital devices.
The appeal comes 10 days after Belarus declared Delfi Litva, a Russian-language YouTube channel with more than 100,000 subscribers, extremist content.
“The regime in Belarus actively uses lists of extremist and terrorist organizations, individuals and internet sites to fight political opponents in the country and abroad,” the agency said, noting that Belarusian security officers randomly check the content of digital devices at the border.
Subscription to Delfi Litva or any other media outlet branded as “extremist content” carries punishment of up to 15 days in jail.
