Trump on Belarus’ prisoners: It looks like they will be released soon

September 6, Pozirk. Belarusian political prisoners may be released in the foreseeable future, according to the remarks US President Donald Trump made while signing documents in the Oval Office yesterday.
Trump addressed the issue after signing an executive order to “enhance efforts to protect U.S. nationals from wrongful detention abroad” and authorize “robust responses against foreign governments engaging in such practices.”
He mentioned Belarus as he was informed that 72 Americans had been released globally since the beginning of his second presidential term.
Trump said, “The head of Belarus is a very respected man, strong, strong person, strong leader, he released 16 hostages. John Coale, a lawyer works for me, a great lawyer actually, one of the greatest lawyers. But John Coale was over there, he heard that they have hostages. And you know about this, 16 people he released. And I just wanna thank the head of Belarus, but while John was over there they had, I believe another 1,400 hostages, not from us, from places all over the world. It is just a pretty tough place . . . 1,400, I believe that they are gonna be releasing a lot of that 1,400. I think very few if any, we’ve pretty much ours back. We did not pay anything, but I very much give my respects to the leader of the country, again, he is a very strong man who’s got 1,400 or 1,500, a large number. And we are talking about releasing them, some of them, I guess political, a lot of them are political. And it looks like they are gonna be released at some point in the near future.”
