Łukašenka admits attack drones can stray from Russia

January 12, Pozirk. Belarus is surrounded by military threats, and even the Russian direction poses risks from straying drones, Alaksandar Łulkašenka has told Kanstancin Mołastaŭ, in charge of the State Border Committee, his press office reports.
“[We have] the only window to the east with the Russian Federation, where things are somewhat easier for us,” the Belarusian ruler said during a meeting on border security for 2026. “But given recent events in Ukraine, it is unclear from where drones might enter our territory. Let’s be honest, we have not yet learned to respond 100 percent to all these incursions, nor to destroy them 100 percent.”
Belarus has been experiencing drone incursions regularly since mid-2024 as the Russians attack Ukraine. Last year, Belarusian authorities have regularly tested the public warning system, particularly in the southern part of the country that faces frequent incursions by Russian drones targeting Ukraine.
In February 2022, Russia started a full-scale war against Ukraine, in which Minsk supported the Kremlin, allowing Russian troops to attack Ukraine from Belarus on multiple occasions and supplying arms to Moscow.
