Belarusian publisher goes out of business on Mother Language Day

February 21, Pozirk. Technalohija, a Minsk-based publisher of books in Belarusian, has announced on Facebook its decision to terminate operations without specifying any reasons.

The announcement comes on International Mother Language Day as Belarusian publishers face severe pressure from authorities.

In 2023, the government enacted legislation that empowered the information ministry to suspend and close down publishers without the taking disputes to court, a mandatory requirement before.

Many publishers of books in Belarusian have lost their licenses, including Medisont, Halijafy, Limaryjus, Knihazbor and Januškievič. Some publishers continue operations in exile.
