Cichanoŭskaja urges Prague mayor to support Belarusian community

June 12, Pozirk. Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja discussed opportunities to deepen Czech-Belarusian ties with Prague Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda, her aide Franak Viačorka told Pozirk.
The politician thanked Svoboda for supporting the Belarusian community and its initiatives, noting the city authorities’ openness to cooperation with Belarusian pro-democracy forces and civil society. Culture and education build bridges between the peoples of Belarus and the Czech Republic, helping expats preserve Belarusian identity in exile, she stressed.
Cichanoŭskaja expressed hope that the city of Prague would continue to back Belarusian civic initiatives, asking the mayor to lend his patronage to the Congress of Belarusians in Czechia scheduled for this fall and to help secure venues for Belarusian events.
The Belarusian politician visited Czechia on June 10 and 11, where she held a series of top-level meetings, including with Czech President Petr Pavel, Senate Speaker Miloš Vystrčil, Foreign Minister Petr Macinka and Culture Minister Oto Klempíř. She also attended the Matter of Art 2026 biennale, one of the largest international forums for contemporary art in Central Europe.
