Those wounded in drone attack reported to be in “stable” condition

June 19, Pozirk. All those wounded in Wednesday’s drone attack on a Belarusian bus in Russia are in a stable condition after the first night in Minsk hospitals, the Homiel Regional Executive Committee reported on June 19 with reference to the health ministry.

Its update concerning the most seriously wounded patient, a child who was brought to Minsk from the Bryansk province on life support, says that he was staying in a resuscitation unit and would be operated on later on Friday by a team of pediatric surgeons, an ENT specialist, a maxillofacial surgeon, trauma surgeons and an ophthalmologist.

The adult patient, currently receiving treatment at the Main Military Medical Clinical Center of the Armed Forces, is also reported to be “stable” and in a condition of “moderate severity.” 

One person was reportedly killed and six, including five children, sustained blast injuries in the drone strike on a tour bus in Russia’s Bryansk province on Wednesday. The following day the survivors were transported to medical institutions in Minsk.

The wounded children are receiving treatment at the National Child Surgery Center, while the injured adult is being treated at the Main Military Medical Clinical Center of the Armed Forces. The condition of one child and the adult was described as “serious.”

Viktoryja Haroška, the wife of a coach from the Rečyca sports school for children, was killed in the attack. Originally from Ukraine, she had lived in Belarus for a long time.

Two passenger buses departed from Rečyca for Russia’s Gelendzhik early Wednesday morning, carrying about 90 people in total, including 41 children. Around 11:00 a.m., a passenger informed city authorities about a drone attack in the Bryansk province. The bus that was hit reportedly carried 43 passengers, including 28 children enrolled in football programs.

The trip to Russia was organized as an annual summer retreat funded by parents. According to the Homiel Regional Football Federation, a different route is usually used.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine denied involvement, stating that Ukrainian forces did not use unmanned aerial vehicles against targets in Russia’s Bryansk region on the day the bus was hit.

While warning against drawing premature conclusions, Alaksandar Łukašenka on Thursday blamed the strike on a Ukrainian drone.

The Belarusian foreign ministry instructed all its diplomatic missions abroad to spread the information that a Ukrainian combat drone was responsible for the incident, with the ministry’s spokesman Rusłan Varankoŭ describing the attack as “deliberate.”
