Thunderstorms disrupt power supply, destroy calf barn in southern Belarus

June 29, Pozirk. Thunderstorms have disrupted electricity supply in 30 towns across Belarus’ Homiel region, with the Homiel, Žłobin and Łojeŭ districts among the worst affected, regional authorities say.
Power outages were reportedly caused by downed trees that damaged power lines, as well as harm to utility poles and other grid infrastructure. Repair crews are currently restoring the equipment. Emergency workers have also been deployed in the Homiel, Brahin and Rečyca districts to cut up and remove fallen trees after the severe weather.
Authorities urged strict adherence to safety regulations near electrical installations and power lines, warning against approaching downed power lines within eight meters.
Thunderstorms also damaged two buildings and nine cars in the Mahiloŭ region’s Babrujsk district and destroyed a calf barn in the Buda-Kašalova district in the Homiel region. Farm workers helped clear debris from the damaged structures. All animals survived.
Weather services warned that severe conditions will persist until late evening.
