Bialacki awarded Democracy Service Medal

August 20, Pozirk. The US National Endowment for Democracy (NED), a congressionally funded organization, has awarded a Democracy Service Medal to Aleś Bialacki, head of the Viasna Human Rights Center released from a Belarusian prison last year.
“We are proud to honor his extraordinary courage and steadfast commitment to Belarus’ democratic future,” NED said on Facebook.
Bialacki “has endured imprisonment and persecution for standing up to authoritarian rule, documenting regime abuses, and defending those whose fundamental rights have been denied.”
Nobel laureate Bialacki was released in December 2025 as part of a deal with Washington after spending five years in prison. He was forcibly deported to Lithuania and continues his pro-democracy activities.
