Vilnius moves to tighten restrictions on Belarusians supporting Russia’s war

October 1, Pozirk. The Lithuanian government approved a foreign ministry’s proposal on restrictions against Russian and Belarusian nationals who support Russia’s war on Ukraine, LRT reported.
The restrictions would bar individuals and legal entities from Russia and Belarus, including organizations seeking to engage in public activities in education, research, culture, arts, entertainment and sports, if they previously operated in Ukraine’s occupied territories, directly or indirectly supported or took part in the war against the Ukrainian people.
However, the restrictions will not apply to individuals or entities that have clearly spoken out against the aggression, publicly opposed such actions and whose activities have not served the interests of the occupier.
New regulations would also prohibit entry to Lithuania for individuals who undermine Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity or security, support human rights abuses and reprisals in Russia and Belarus or threaten democracy and the rule of law.
The Seimas is expected to consider adding the corresponding amendments to the law on national sanctions. If approved, the amendments will take effect on January 1, 2027.
