Convicted blogger Palčys transferred to Viciebsk pre-trial detention center

February 6, BPN. Human rights defenders learned that in early February, convicted blogger Eduard Palčys was transferred from Minsk pre-trial detention center No. 1 (known as “Valadarka”) to Viciebsk pre-trial detention center No. 2.

On December 17, 31-year-old Palčys was sentenced to 13 years in a penal colony by the decision of the Minsk City Court. He was charged under four articles of the Criminal Code: 130 (incitement of racial, national, religious or other social hatred or discord), 293 (mass riots), 342 (organization and preparation of actions, grossly violating public order, or active participation in them), 361 (calls for restrictive measures (sanctions), other actions aimed at causing harm to the national security of the Republic of Belarus).
