EU countries prevented 96 irregular migrants from entering from Belarus over the previous day
February 16, BPN. Over the previous day, 96 migrants intending to cross the border illegally from Belarus were prevented from entering the European Union.
The Latvian State Border Guard reported that attempts to illegally cross the Latvian-Belarusian border by 24 foreigners were prevented on February 15.
Since August 10, 2021, when a state of emergency was introduced in the areas bordering Belarus, 6,097 illegal migrants have been prevented from entering Latvia. In the same time period, 126 people have been let through for humanitarian reasons.
Border Guard Service of Poland reported on Twitter that on the previous day 72 migrants tried to illegally cross the border from the Belarusian territory. Since the beginning of January 2022, 1,278 people were not allowed to enter Poland.
The Lithuanian broadcaster LRT quoted the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service reporting that there were no attempts to illegally cross the border on February 15. Since the beginning of August 2021, when it was decided not to detain illegal immigrants, instead turning them back to Belarus, 8,328 people were not allowed to enter Lithuania.
