EU imposes sanctions against Belarusian Development Bank and Dabrabyt Bank

February 22, BPN. The EU has imposed sanctions against Dabrabyt Bank and Belarusian Development Bank.

They are prohibited from directly or indirectly providing investment services, acquiring, selling or facilitating the issuance of securities and money market instruments with a maturity of more than 90 days, issued by Belarus – its government, state agencies, companies and agencies, as well as by Belarusian credit organizations and other organizations with more than 50% state interest, organizations or bodies acting on behalf of or at the direction of certain legal entities.

On June 24, 2021, similar sanctions were imposed against Belarusbank, Belinvestbank, and Belahraprombank. This was part of the fourth sanctions package imposed by the EU against the Belarusian authorities, covering entire sectors of the country’s economy for the first time. The sanctions were the EU’s response to the ongoing human rights violations, repression of civil society, democratic opposition and journalists, as well as to the forced landing of the Ryanair flight and the detention of journalist Raman Pratasievič and his companion Safija Sapieha who were on board.
