About a thousand Belarusians in Ukraine applied for help – MFA
February 24, BPN. As of 6 pm Minsk time, about a thousand citizens of Belarus applied to diplomats for help, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The release notes that Belarusian nationals are evacuated through the checkpoints on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border Novaja Rudnia and Novaja Huta, as well as through Moldova, bordering Ukraine. “According to the available information, more than 50 people have crossed the border by these routes so far,” the Foreign Ministry said.
Belarusian embassy in Ukraine asked for understanding of possible delays, as its “human resources are limited,” yet it promised “to try providing all possible assistance to all citizens who have applied without any exceptions.”
The Foreign Ministry urged to cancel all planned trips to Ukraine “until the situation stabilizes.” According to the ministry, during the day of February 24, about ten attempts to enter Ukraine from Belarus on business trips were registered.
The Foreign Ministry also reported on “documented facts of looting and robbery on the roads of Ukraine,” urging people to be as careful as possible, not to stop on the way without an emergency and not to turn off the main highways.
According to the ministry, there are now “several thousand” Belarusian citizens in Ukraine.
