Belarusians did not make a decision to become an aggressor, Cichanoŭskaja says
February 25, BPN. The fact that the territory of Belarus was involved in the military operation of the Kremlin against Ukraine is “a shame for our people,” but Belarusians did not decide to become an aggressor, Belarusian democratic leader Sviatlana Cichanoŭskaja said at an anti-war rally in the evening of February 24 in Paris.
She stressed that Belarusians are “against the war and against this particular war.”
“Our peoples should never shoot at each other. Our children should not be left without parents because of dictators for whom today’s dead are statistics, not tragedy,” she said.
The former presidential candidate stressed that when she speaks of solidarity with the people of Ukraine, she is also referring to the Belarusians who once found a safe haven in that country. She asked Belarusians to help Ukrainians “in all possible ways.”
“Belarusians see foreign tanks at their doors. I am here to assure you that we would do everything possible to ensure that both our nations are peaceful, free, and independent,” Cichanoŭskaja said.
