Ukraine and Russia agree to change humanitarian corridors, “consultations to be continued” on the military and political issues
March 8, BPN. Ukrainian and Russian delegations agreed to change the humanitarian corridors logistics for evacuating civilians in cities where military actions are taking place. This was reported on Twitter by Mykhailo Podolyak, Advisor to the Head of the Ukrainian President’s Office, following the third round of negotiations that took place in the evening of March 7 in Belaviežskaja Pušča.
“We have achieved some positive results in terms of the humanitarian corridors logistics – there will be changes. Better assistance will be provided to people who are suffering today from the aggression of the Russian Federation,” he said. “As for the key political issues, including a cease-fire, a truce, and eventually a cessation of hostilities, intensive consultations will continue. To date, there are still no results that would significantly improve the situation. Nevertheless, I repeat, consultations will continue, and we will obtain a result.”
The first round of negotiations took place on February 28 at the Belarusian-Ukrainian border, the second round – on March 3 at the Belarusian-Polish border.
During the previous meeting, the parties agreed on the organization of humanitarian corridors for the civilian population.
This mechanism did not work effectively – Ukraine accused Russia of repeatedly shelling evacuation routes and refused to evacuate the civilian population. Moscow offered its own evacuation routes to Russia via Belarus, which Kyiv deemed unacceptable.
