Arriving Belarusians and Russians do not pose risks to the country’s security – State Security Service of Georgia
March 9, BPN. Citizens of Belarus and Russia arriving in Georgia do not pose risks to the country’s security, says the statement of the State Security Service of Georgia.
The special service responded to the “deliberate disinformation on massive and uncontrolled flow of foreign citizens to Georgia, in particular of the citizens of the Russian Federation and Belarus. The public is being intimidated that among the travelers there are so-called saboteurs, terrorism-related groups and etc.”
Georgian State Security Service stressed that “current security situation in the country is in full control,” with special services and agencies taking all necessary measures to “minimize possible risks and challenges, as well as to monitor all individuals staying in the country who may represent any potential risk.”
It also stated that citizens of Russia, Belarus, and other countries entering Georgia do not display any “tendencies to carry out activities that pose risk to the country’s security.”
The statement pointed out that the number of persons entering Georgia at this time “does not exceed the statistics of the same period of last years.”
In this context, it should be noted that citizens of Belarus often move to Georgia to escape repression by the Belarusian authorities and the risks associated with Belarusian involvement in Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine. Russian citizens move to Georgia because of the war unleashed by the Kremlin, escaping potential mobilization and repression for anti-war rallies.
