Historian Bely sentenced to 15 days in jail

March 19, BPN. Historian Alies’ Bely, who was arrested near the Ukrainian embassy in Minsk on March 17, has been sentenced to 15 days in jail, BY_culture said.

Bely was arrested together with the TikTok blogger Mikita Bialevič and Alieh Laryčaŭ, coordinator of Signal street art project. Bely was accused of resisting a police officer at the Tsentraĺny District Police Department in Minsk.

Bely is a prominent Belarusian author of historical articles and several books, including a monograph on the origins and history of “Belaja Rus’” and books on Belarusian cuisine.

Bely received awards from the Belarusian PEN Center and the International Congress of Belarusian Studies.
