State Border Committee: 2,305 Ukrainians came to Belarus since the start of the war
March 19, BPN. Since the start of the war in Ukraine, 2,305 Ukrainian citizens have entered Belarus, according to the press office of the State Border Committee.
Most (1,480) Ukrainians crossed the Ukrainian-Belarusian border, 776 came via Poland, 45 via Lithuania, and four via Latvia.
The State Border Committee said that between March 17 and 18, 421 Ukrainian citizens have entered Belarus from Ukraine, including those transiting through the EU countries.
According to the Ukrainian sources, about three million people became internally displaced because of the hostilities in the country, nearly half of them were taken in by Poland. About 400 Ukrainians are said to have arrived in Belarus in the past week.
On March 18, Aliaksandr Lukašenka signed a decree granting Belarusian citizenship to 428 persons, 418 of whom are Ukrainians.
The vast majority of them are residents of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, said Lukašenka’s press office.
Since August 2021, 1,494 Ukrainians have received Belarusian citizenship via his decrees. Migration authorities granted Belarusian citizenship to 1,579 Ukrainians.
