Viktar Babaryka held in a punishment cell for ten days

May 14, BPN. Ex-banker and presidential hopeful Viktar Babaryka, sentenced to 14 years in prison, was placed in a punishment cell at the Navapolack penal colony No. 1 (Viciebsk region) from May 1 to May 11, his team reported, referring to his family.

Babaryka was denied a meeting with his lawyer on May 4 and 5, but was allowed one on May 10, his team said. On May 12, Babaryka took part in a court session in the penal colony dealing with his lawyer’s complaint against his placement in a punishment cell. The court decision is not yet known, but it is quite predictable, his team added.

On May 14, human rights defenders reported mass searches at homes of Babaryka’s team volunteers in Minsk.
