Opposition activist’s social media accounts branded extremist content
June 10, BPN. The content of YouTube and Telegram channels linked to Volha Karač, a Belarusian civil society activist and politician, with 4,400 and 6,200 subscribers, respectively, as well as the Telegram channels Volny Partyzan with 21,000 subscribers and Volnaja Belarus with 885 subscribers have been declared extremist, the Prosecutor General’s Office reported.
On May 4, the interior ministry branded a group linked to the websites of the organization Nash Dom an extremist group. The International Centre for Civil Initiatives Nash Dom, which has relocated from Viciebsk to Vilnius, is also run by Karač. In September 2021, Karač was included in the list of persons involved in terrorist activities. She has been living abroad for a long time.
The distribution of extremist content is punishable under the Administrative Offenses Code, while association with extremist groups is a crime carrying a prison sentence.
