Imprisoned opposition leader deprived of long visits

June 13, BPN. Pavieł Seviaryniec, an opposition politician arrested in the run-up to the 2020 presidential election and sentenced to a lengthy term, has been deprived of extended visits at Škłoŭ Prison No. 17, Mahiloŭ region, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.

His last extended meeting with his family dates back to December 2021.

In March 2022, the interior ministry published on its website a list of individuals involved in terrorist activities including Seviaryniec.

In April, the prison administration reduced the number of phone calls and money transfers to Seviaryniec over alleged regime violations.

In May 2021, the Mahiloŭ Regional Court sentenced Seviaryniec, along with political activists Jaŭhien Afnahel and Andrej Vojnič, to seven years in prison. Pavieł Juchnievič and Maksim Vińarski, as well as video blogger Dźmitryj Kazłoŭ (Grey Cat) received five years in prison, and Iryna Ščasnaja, who administered Telegram channel Maja Kraina Belarus, four years in the same criminal case.
