Opposition activist transferred to a higher security facility

June 13, BPN. Judge Vital Łabocki of the Kastryčnicki District Court of Hrodna ordered Viačasłaŭ Papoŭ, a man convicted in connection with post-election protests, transferred to prison on June 9, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.

Papoŭ was arrested in March 2021 in a violent police raid on his apartment. He was sentenced to three years of restricted freedom in an open-type correctional facility a few months later.

People sentenced to restricted freedom with referral to an open-type correctional facility live in barracks and are required to find a job in the location. They are allowed to leave the facility for work only.

Human rights defenders declared Papoŭ a political prisoner.
