Cichanoŭskaja calls on EU to facilitate Belarusians’ mobility
June 21, BPN. Belarusian democratic leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja at the Kalinowski Conference in the European Parliament on June 21 called on the EU to facilitate Belarusians’ mobility, in particular by granting them visas, launching student exchanges and educational programs.
She expressed indignation that Alaksandr Łukašenka, who she said did not represent the Belarusians, but only himself, dragged Belarus into Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The Belarusians oppose the war, she said, and there can be no free Ukraine without free Belarus and vice versa.
In an apparent reference to Ukraine, she said when the EU gives a candidate status to another country, it should also promise European future to Belarus in the declaration.
Cichanoŭskaja also said her office is working with the Council of Europe to develop solutions that would allow democratic Belarus to participate in its work.
