Authorities to build memorial to “victims of the genocide”

August 24, BPN. The Belarusian culture ministry and Prosecutor General’s Office have announced a contest for a design of “a memorial sign commemorating the victims of the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War [part of World War II].”

The press office of the Prosecutor General described the future memorial as a “unique symbol of national remembrance of the victims of genocide.” It also noted that the contest should help find a “national idea” to preserve and strengthen the unity of Belarusians.

The contest is open both for professional artists as well as for all interested Belarusians and foreigners without artistic education. The authorities also encourage students to participate.

Contest applications and draft designs are accepted until November 1.
