US think tank: Belarus’ entry into war in Ukraine “highly unlikely”

November 3, BPN. The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) said Belarus’ entry into the war on the side of Russia was extremely unlikely.

“Belarus’ entry into the war remains highly unlikely due to the array of domestic ramifications such an action would have on President Alaksandr Łukašenka’s regime, as well as limited Belarusian military capabilities,” it said on its website on November 2.

Earlier that day, the defense ministries of Belarus and Russia discussed future cooperation via video link.

ISW called the virtual meeting “a continuation of a concerted effort on the part of both Belarus and Russia to perpetuate an information operation that presents the threat of the Union State as imminent in order to pin Ukrainian troops against the northern border and pollute the information space.”
