Belarusian, Russian security chiefs discuss Union State

November 3, BPN. The head of the Belarusian Security Council, Alaksandr Valfovič, and his Russian counterpart Nikolai Patrushev have met on the sidelines of a regional forum in Moscow to discuss the security of their countries’ union.

“I had a meeting with Nikolai Patrushev, the secretary of the Russian Security Council, at which we touched upon problems relating to the Union State’s security and a number of other issues,” Valfovič said, as quoted by BelTA.

Commenting on the results of the forum of the CIS security chiefs, Valfovič said: “Everyone noted that it is necessary to resolve this conflict [between Russia and Ukraine] peacefully as soon as possible.”

He put the blame for the conflict on the West, which he said “pit the two fraternal peoples one against the other.”

Russia launched a full-scale war against Ukraine in February 2022. Belarus denies the participation of its units in hostilities, but is setting up a joint regional group of troops with Moscow.
