Belarusian police blacklists 244 over “extremism”

November 4, BPN. The Belarusian interior ministry has updated its register of persons involved in extremist activities, blacklisting 244 more people.

The register now includes 1,714 names. Many of them, such as journalist Alaksandr Ivulin, NGO leader Viktar Fiančuk, opposition activists Siarhiej Cichanoŭski and Mikałaj Statkievič, were recognized as political prisoners by the Belarusian human rights community.

Previously, media reported that those on the list are not eligible for clemency. They are prohibited from holding public office and their financial transactions are subject to special controls.
