Unit 1 at Belarusian NPP reconnected to grid after repairs – energy ministry

November 9, BPN. Unit 1 at the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) was reconnected to the grid at 12:33 p.m. on November 9, the Ministry of Energy’s press office has announced.

It noted that the unit started generating electricity after scheduled maintenance and additional tests.

Unit 1 will gradually increase output, the ministry said, noting that programs test the plant’s operation at different output levels.

Repairs at Unit 1 started on April 25 and lasted over six months, instead of the planned 80 days.

The Belarusian NPP is located near Astraviec, Hrodna region, some 10 miles away from the Lithuanian border. It has been built with a Russian loan. Lithuania views the plant as unsafe and describes it as a “geopolitical weapon.”
