Łukašenka threatens nationalization of foreign-owned companies
November 11, BPN. Alaksandr Łukašenka has said that foreign-owned companies would be nationalized if their owners seek to withdraw from their businesses in Belarus.
“One company, I do not want to name it, but I receive signals that those Finns have run away,” he told officials during a visit to the Tałačyn district, as quoted by his press office.
“Meanwhile, Lithuanians are running around, looking for a good buyer for their company instead of just leaving it behind,” he continued.
“They need to know that no one will sell anything with foreign capital. All of it will be nationalized,” he said.
Commenting on the remark by Viciebsk Region Executive Committee Chairman Alaksandr Subocin that Lithuanian businesspeople were interested in construction projects in Belarus, Łukašenka said: “I will no longer see your Lithuanians, Finns and others even close to here anymore. We know how they had entered and how they dropped everything and left. We know that.”
