Cichanoŭskaja, Canadian defense minister discuss help for Belarusian volunteer fighters
November 20, BPN. Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja and Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand have discussed assistance for Belarusian volunteers fighting in Ukraine.
“We will work together to bring peace and security back to Eastern Europe, including my beloved Belarus,” Cichanoŭskaja tweeted following the meeting on the sidelines of a security forum in Halifax.
The Belarusian politician is visiting Canada on November 18-23. She has already had meetings with Dutch Defense Minister Kajsa Ollongren and US senators, and also addressed a plenary session.
In a November 18 op-ed for The Globe and Mail, Cichanoŭskaja called on Ottawa, which has frozen and seized Russian assets, to take a similar decision on Alaksandr Łukašenka and his cronies.
Next she plans to meet with Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly, MEPs and members of the Belarusian diaspora.
