Ukraine: Russia to stage terrorist acts, including at nuclear plant, to drag Belarus into war
November 20, BPN. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense’s main intelligence directorate has said that Russia is planning to stage terrorist attacks in Belarus.
These would be “artificially caused man-made disasters at critical infrastructure facilities,” it said (quotes rendered from Russian).
These incidents may occur in territories bordering the EU and Ukraine, it added. One of the main goals is supposedly the Astraviec Nuclear Power Plant in the Hrodna region, near the Lithuanian border.
“The Russian special services are designing and implementing the ‘project,’” the intelligence directorate said. “The Belarusian KGB has simply been notified. As has become the tradition, responsibility for the terrorist attacks will be attributed to NATO and Ukrainian citizens in Belarusian military uniforms. Units of the Belarusian KGB, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the border troops have already been put on high alert.”
“According to the designers of the ‘project,’ all this should accelerate the Belarusian army’s entry into the war in Ukraine on the side of the occupiers. It should also shape Belarusian public opinion in favor of the Kremlin,” it said.
On October 21, the Ukrainian Armed Forces warned that if the Belarusian army “supports Russian aggression,” it will get a stringent response.
