Russia-Belarus defense amendments may have something to do with drones

December 4, BPN. The amendments signed recently by Minsk and Moscow may have something to do with the production of equipment and weapons for the Russian military, Pavieł Łatuška, of the Belarusian opposition cabinet, said on YouTube on December 3.

“According to our information, it deals with the production of drones based on Iranian components and technologies and of ballistic missiles with a range of up to 1,000 km,” he said.

The reports that Piotr Parchomčyk, Belarus’ deputy prime minister in charge of industry, and State Defense Industry Committee Chairman Dźmitryj Pantus were present at the signing might be indicative of that, Łatuška added.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu visited Belarus on December 3 to sign a protocol amending a 1997 agreement on regional security. The amendment has not yet been made public.

After the ceremony, Shoigu and his Belarusian counterpart met with Alaksandr Łukašenka.
