KGB adds five, including lawyer Ziankovič, to terrorism register

December 5, BPN. The Belarusian Committee for State Security (KGB) has added five people to its register of people involved in terrorism.

Three of them, Juryj Ziankovič, Anastasija Kuchta and Andrej Harun, were declared political prisoners by human rights groups. Lawyer Ziankovič, 45, was convicted of plotting to seize state power, association with in an extremist group, inciting hatred and calling for actions to undermine Belarus’ security. Civic activist Kuchta, 30, was convicted of grossly disturbing public order, calling for actions to undermine Belarus’ security and association with an extremist group. IT professional Andrej Harun was convicted of inciting hatred.

The KGB also blacklisted an insurance company’s employee Taćciana Kołas, 40, and Illa Smaluha, 26. Both were convicted of inciting hatred.

In November 2022, the KGB added a total of 28 names to the register. It now has 968 people, 227 Belarusian nationals among them. It also has one German and one Latvian, charged for political reasons in Belarus.

Those blacklisted are prohibited from receiving cash transfers in places of detention.
