Poland pushes migrants into Belarus through fence gate – border committee

November 12, BPN. Belarusian border guards “recorded an attempt to push a group of refugees” in the direction of the Belarusian state border, the Belarusian State Border Committee’s press office reported. The incident occurred at the border with Poland on December 11.

“Most of the foreigners were emaciated and exhausted,” it said. “To push them out, Polish guards used the gate ‘for animals,’ near which we had found dead bodies in October and November.”

The press office described those expelled from Poland as “foreigners” and “refugees.” It published a video showing people in winter clothes passing the gate, presumably into the borderlands.

The migration crisis at the Belarusian-EU border dates back to the spring of 2021. It escalated on November 8, 2021 when thousands of migrants set up a camp near the Polish border. The Baltic states and Poland accused Belarusian authorities of creating the trouble, while the latter blamed it on the West.

Migration figures had dropped significantly by the time Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, but have risen more recently.
