Vatican envoy wishes new foreign minister fruitful work in “difficult historical period”

December 14, BPN. The apostolic nuncio to Belarus, Archbishop Ante Jozić, has congratulated Siarhiej Alejnik, who served as ambassador to the Holy See in 2002-2009, on his appointment as foreign minister.

He wished Alejnik fruitful work “in the difficult historical period when the fates of people and nations depend more than ever on diplomats’ efforts to support dialogue for peace and stability.”

Alejnik was appointed as minister of foreign affairs on December 13.

Roman Catholic priests have often been persecuted after the disputed 2020 election over their civic position. The church leadership, however, took a fairly moderate stance.
