Prosecutors open extremism case against blogger

December 20, BPN. Prosecutors in Belarus have opened a new criminal case against blogger Andrej Pavuk, charging him with facilitating extremist activities.

“It has been established that on December 18, 2022 he posted to a destructive Telegram channel a link to a video of him phoning prosecutors and their close relatives, pretending to be a judge,” the Prosecutor General’s Office said.

“Speaking with them, Andrej Pavuk communicated deliberately false information about Belarus’ political situation and slandered the head of state,” it added.

Pavuk, 40, is a civic activist, blogger and musician. Law enforcers put him and his bandmate, opera singer Marharyta Laŭčuk, on the wanted list. He was charged with desecrating state symbols, illegally handling personal data and insulting an official.
